These page describes the additional features that have been added to version 1.1 of ProWrite in response to requests from ProWrite users. Please keep these pages with your ProWrite User's Manual.FSCC
INon-Interlace There are now two versions of ProWrite to choose from--the
Version standard interlace-screen version (called ProWrite on the disk), and a new non-interlace version (called ProWrite MR for "Medium Resolution"). They differ only in the screen display; the standard version gives an exact representation of the final printed output, while the MR version (since it has only half the vertical resolution) displays everything twice as high as it will be printed. The advantages of the MR version are greatly reduced memory requirements and the absence of screen flicker. Using this version should eliminate virtually all memory problems on systems with 512K of memory. To use it you should copy it to a new disk and rename it as ProWrite.
NLQ Print Mode In the Print As submenu under the Project menu there is a new item--NLQ (Near Letter Quality). Previously, in order to print in NLQ mode (on printers which have this capability) you had to select Draft from the Print As submenu, and select "Letter" from the "Print Quality" of Amiga Preferences; now you can choose between these two types of character printing directly from ProWrite. Note, however, that not all printers have a NLQ mode. Also, just as in Draft printing, NLQ printing does not print either multiple fonts or graphics; and that in order to have correct line and character spacing you must use the Topaz 11 font.
aDimmed Colors The dimmed screen colors have been slightly modified--the white color is now slightly dimmer. This decreases the interlace flicker even more (some monitors have more of a problem with it than others, and flourescent lights make the problem worse). Press Shift-Help to get the dimmed colors, press it again to restore the original colors.
eSelecting Fonts You can now select different fonts and sizes from the font requester by using the up and down cursor keys. Press the Up or Down key to select a different font, and Shift-Up or Shift-Down to select a different size. Using these keys with the Return or Enter keys lets you to select a different font/size combination using only the keyboard.
YTroubleshooting Here are some suggestions for the most common problems in using ProWrite:
3"Unable To Print" is displayed when trying to print
This message usually arises because you are trying to print in Standard mode and there is not enough memory to do this. Try quitting any other programs you are using (including closing any CLI windows), and closing all WorkBench windows. Often the reason for having not enough memory is simply because you have several windows open in ProWrite without knowing it (each window takes up nearly 100K of graphics memory just to be displayed). Note that the Open command does not close any windows that are already open (such as the "Untitled" window). Click on the window's Back gadget to see if there are any other windows open in ProWrite.
Another reason for not having enough available memory is either having several pictures in the document, or having one very large one. We recommend you use only "Brushes" from DPaint (or "Windows" from Images) as pictures in your documents; they take up much less memory.TEXT
A"Printing in Progress" is displayed, but nothing is being printed
When this happens, it means that you have not set up Amiga Preferences to the correct printer setting. Check to see that Preferences is set for the printer that you have, and that you have set the Parallel/Serial gadget (next to the list of printers in Preferences) to the type of printer you have. The ProWrite disk has Preferences set for an ImageWriterII, which is a Serial printer; most other printers are Parallel printers. Check your printer manual if your are unsure as to what type of printer you have.
